SUNTOWER is a family project born from a dream - a dream that seeks to generate a positive impact on the world by promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Our Story
It all began in 2008, when Mauricio completed his studies in Agricultural Engineering at the Central University of Ecuador. As a member of the Kichwa Cayambe indigenous community, Mauricio focused his professional vision into promoting agricultural practices characterized by sustainability, solidarity, and reciprocity.
Throughout his career he has worked in public and private institutions, not only in Ecuador, but in several Latin American countries, engaging in the design, execution and evaluation of agricultural development projects, focused on rescuing ancestral knowledge and promoting the construction of social and technological innovation processes in rural areas.
In 2015 Mauricio moved to Mexico where he completed his Master's & Doctorate in Strategies for Agricultural Development at the “Colegio de Postgraduados”. During this time he expanded his professional development to include the study of interactions within ecosystems and models of family, peasant, and indigenous agricultural production.
In 2019 Mauricio relocated to Canada and started working as an Area Manager for a well-known local landscaping company in the city of Ottawa. In this position, and holding a Landscape Exterminator license, he would promote the implementation of two lines of business focused on strengthening urban agriculture processes from the creation of family gardens and sustainable strategies in Pest Control under the good management of pesticides.
With eleven years of experience in family, peasant, and indigenous agricultural processes in Latin America, coupled with four years in landscaping and urban agriculture in Canada, Mauricio realized his greatest dream in 2024: the creation of SUNTOWER. This innovative project aims to develop sustainable services for the management and care of green areas, lawns, and gardens in Canadian homes.
At SUNTOWER our most valued indicator is the satisfaction of our customers. To achieve this, our project is grounded in five fundamental principles: reciprocity, sustainability, solidarity, trust, and respect.

'Tower of the Sun' transcends its literal meaning to also evoke a specific location tied to the indigenous Kayambi people from which Mauricio originates.
From this perspective, SUNTOWER is reminiscent of PUNTIATZIL, a sacred site for the Kayambi people, where a prominent adobe tower once stood. This tower symbolized a key aspect of the ritualistic and spiritual practices of the Kayambi community, particularly their reverence towards the sun.
As a child, Mauricio observed his grandmother paying homage at this location, expressing gratitude to Mother Earth for the harvests and seeking blessings for new plantings. The intergenerational transfer of these rituals has endured, as the sacred site continues to be utilized by numerous dancers, including Mauricio's father.
PUNTIATZIL serves as a pilgrimage destination, attracting a massive influx of people, particularly during the summer solstice, when the Kayambi people communities meet to bring reverence for the balance between fire and water elements, through their dances and rituals.
